It usually starts with a meaningful conversation around a critical long term challenge of the organization. The issue is explored from multiple perspectives; therefore, you would invite people from multiple backgrounds and disciplines - Diversity is a key. The conversation might last 2 hours, or 3 days, or a series of several Wednesday afternoons. In all cases, good facilitators and facilitation methods are critical.
